Description

Bitumen (Penetration & Viscosity Grade)
Description:
Bitumen is a secondary hydrocarbon product derived as a by-product of crude oil distillation. Known for its waterproofing and adhesive properties, bitumen is a key material in construction, particularly for road paving, roofing, and waterproofing applications. Its durability and resistance to environmental factors make it essential for infrastructure projects.

Production Process:
Bitumen is produced through crude oil distillation, where lighter fractions like gasoline and diesel are removed, leaving behind heavier components. Its properties are influenced by the balance of asphaltenes, resins, and oils. Asphaltenes provide viscoelasticity, while oils ensure flexibility and processability.

Bitumen Grades:

  1. Penetration Grade (PG):
    • Graded based on the depth a standard needle penetrates the bitumen at 25°C.
    • Lower penetration grades are used in warmer climates, while higher grades are suited for colder regions.
    • Common Grades: 30/40, 40/50, 60/70, 80/100, 120/150.
  2. Viscosity Grade (VG):
    • Graded by viscosity at 60°C and 135°C. Higher viscosity indicates stiffer bitumen, ideal for heavy-duty pavements.
    • Retains penetration properties at 25°C for enhanced durability under traffic loads.
    • Common Grades: VG-10, VG-30, VG-40.
    • VG-30 is used for heavy-duty pavements, while VG-40 is recommended for intersections and toll booths.

Applications:

  • Road Construction & Paving: Penetration and viscosity grades are used based on climate and traffic conditions.
  • Roofing & Waterproofing: Acts as a sealant for roofs and foundations.
  • Industrial Use: Utilized in pipe coating, paints, adhesives, and insulation.
  • High-Stress Areas: VG-40 is ideal for intersections and toll booths due to its resistance to heavy loads and high temperatures.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced Durability: Provides superior performance under high traffic and extreme weather conditions.
  • Versatility: Suitable for a wide range of applications across construction and industrial sectors.
  • Custom Packaging: Available in bulk, steel drums, or jumbo bags (300 kg – 1 MT).

Packaging Options:

  • Bulk Tankers – For large-scale paving projects.
  • Steel Drums – Ideal for smaller quantities.
  • Jumbo Bags – Flexible packaging options to meet diverse client needs.
